  • As for 2015, the new composition of the SSAA committee is now: Georges Meynet (president), Prasenjit Saha (vice-president), Kevin Heng (treasurer), and Kevin Schawinski (secretary).
  • The 46th course, "Lyman-alpha as an astrophysical and cosmological tool", will be held  13-19 March 2016, in Les Diablerets, Switzerland. Confirmed speakers: Prof. mark Dijkstra, Prof. J. Xavier Prochaska, Prof. Masami Ouchi, Prof. Matthew Hayes . The course is now open for registration. For more information visit the course webpage.
  • The last General Assembly of the SSAA was held  15-16 October 2015 in Locarno (IRSOL).  More information.
  • In 2015, seven young researchers were awarded a "MERAC funding and travel award": Kimihiko Nakajima, Caroline Dorn and Daniel Kitzmann in the first call, and Claudia Cicone, Tassos Fragos, Michael Koss and Matej Malik in the second call.
  • Prasenjit Saha (Uni Zurich) has been elected new member of the SSAA committe at the 2013 General Assembly. He will replace Michael Meyer (ETHZ) as Vicepresident.
  • The 44th Saas Fee course, "Cosmology with Wide Field Surveys", will be held  2-7 March 2014, in Engelberg, Switzerland. Confirmed speakers: Luca Amendola, Camille Bonvin, Sarah Bridle, and Roberto Trotta. The course is now open for registration. For more information visit the course webpage.
  • June 2013: Three young researchers receive the first  "MERAC funding and travel award": Anahi Granada for "Rapidly Rotating Stellar Populations", José Groh for "Massive stars through cosmic times", and Anne Verhamme for "Lyman alpha radiation transfer in hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation and evolution". Their projets are supported with 3000-5000 CHF.
  • A joint meeting of the Swiss Physical Society, the Austrian Physical Society, the Austrian Society for Astronomy and Astrophysics, and the SSAA will take place september 3-6, 2013, in Linz (Austria). The program consists of plenary speeches, topical sessions, and additional events. The special session on astronomy is on "Habitable Worlds: From Detection to Characterization".   • The 43rd course, "Star formation in galaxy evolution: connecting numerical models to reality", was held 11-16 March 2013, in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland.   • Yann Alibert (Uni Berne) and Georges Meynet (Uni Geneva) have been elected as new members of the SSAA committe at the 2011 General Assembly.
